Born in London but raised in Tokyo in the city’s mega-sprawl, Tohji emerged via Soundcloud first releasing music in 2017, then first had success in the group Mall Boyz. Within Japan, he became a J-pop star with his Bloc Party sampling TikTok hit TEENAGE VIBE with fellow rapper kZm.

He spoke directly to a new generation and began to collaborate with like-minded very online artists worldwide. In March 2021, Tohji, Loota and Brodinski released their collaborative project ‘KUUGA’ (watch the project performed in Osaka with NTS here). Released in June 2022 his t-Mix mixtape saw him A&R a Japanese vision of hyperpop influenced alternative rap music, with an Ultraman character in the videos (check ULTRA RARE here) and collaborations with many great outsider artists like Mechatok, Palmistry, Thrilliam Angels. Swedish icon Bladee traded verses with him on mixtape track Twilight Zone. He contributed a digitally processed vocal verse on digipop auteur yeule’s single Perfect Blue on their breakthrough 2022’s Glitch Princess. He also contributed to super-producer Mura Masa’s single slomo.

In 2023, Boiler Room shone a light on his u-ha series of parties with a performance in front of 1500 passionate fans in Tokyo that went viral thanks to the passionate support his fans. Tohji was ready and set to be The One. His high concept vision for the new records brings strange new shapes into the J-rap universe, slick black xenomorphic shapes with teeth, pulling from trap, drill, animé, the supernatural. A few shades darker and more horrific than the Slush Puppie blue mood of t-mix, Tohji is the cult musician taking millions of minds where his inner visions lead him.
