Born in Nairobi and hailing from the Nilotic tribes of Kenya, Australian-based singer, rapper, and producer Elsy Wameyo embraces cultural heritage through her musical offerings. Her impressive self-produced tracks lay the foundation for introspective and insightful rapid-fire lyrics, delivered over a psychedelic fusion of hip-hop, rap, gospel and found recordings that shape her musical vision. Her debut EP, Nilotic, claimed six awards at the South Australian Music Awards including Best Production, Song, Music Video, Release and Vocal.
Previously, Elsy has shared stages with artists such as Sampa the Great, Genesis Owusu and Hilltop Hoods. She adds this to festival appearances at Splendour in the Grass, Dark Mofo, Falls Festival, Laneway Festival and WOMADelaide. More recently, Elsy completed her first tour in Kenya. In late 2023 she joined Genesis Owusu for his ’STRUGGLER’ Australian tour, and will tour Australia, East Africa, the UK and Europe in 2024.
