Laura Jean
Sydney songwriter Laura Jean is revered for the striking beauty of her music and the strength of her piercing, intimate lyrics. Shortlisted twice for the Australian Music Prize, and touring in the UK/Europe with Courtney Barnett, Aldous Harding and Jenny Hval, and New Zealand with Marlon Williams.
Laura’s new album Amateurs was released in late 2022 via Aussie independent institution Chapter Music. It features Aldous Harding and Marlon Williams on backing vocals, and has had coverage from Pitchfork, Guardian UK, NME, Brooklyn Vegan and elsewhere. Her previous album, 2018’s Devotion, had superlative reviews from Pitchfork, Clash and Line Of Best Fit, and made it into end of year lists for Spin and Apple Music.
Laura recorded her 2014 self-titled album in the UK with producer John Parish (PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius, Aldous Harding), with backing vocals by Norwegian star Jenny Hval. Jenny Hval returned the favour by featuring Laura on three songs from her 2019 album The Practise of Love.
Laura also sings on records by Australian icons like Rolling Blackouts CF, Paul Kelly, the Drones and Adalita.
